Close-Ups

Although the subject car shown here may not be the best of examples (ie. it has been through three tough seasons without being overhauled) it shows how a typical slot-stox car racing at Leek Slot Stox Club is constructed and also clearly demonstrates how well these custom built cars stand up to the constant battering endured in this 'full contact' sport.

Nick's Car September 1997

This car was purchased second hand during '96 and then given a lick of paint and a new bodyshell at the end of the 96/97 season as the driver had been promoted to 'gold top'

Nick's Car December 2000

This is the same car (believe it or not!) three years and three punishing seasons later. The paintwork was the first to suffer being chipped off bit by bit every race. Next to go was the bodyshell which must have lasted a good couple of seasons which is not bad going really. The back section of the 'shell was held together with tape for some time before eventually the entire roof section was lost after an accident in the chicane which left the car lying accross the track on it's side with the roof facing oncoming cars - the inevitable merciless impact smashed it off completely with no hope of repair. The new bodyshell needs painting, windows cut out etc. Although having suffered cosmetically, the car has received a few performance upgrades - the main one being the motor. A 'brown brute' was fitted which is a good all round motor showing good acceleration characteristics as well mid range performance and probably gives the car more top end than is usable on our home track. The guide flag was replaced with one which has a more streamlined entry point for the wires resulting in less snags and breaks.
